Kiran Bedi

Kiran Bedi, presently Special Secretary to the Lt. Governor of Delhi, has shown creativity throughout her private and professional life - and she has been able to transform this creativity into outstanding results, whether:

  • as a successful tennis player, winning the Asian Lawn Tennis Champion-ship in her early years;
  • as a brilliant student, the first woman to graduate from the Indian Police Academy and obtaining a PhD at the world famous IIT Delhi;
  • as an engaged campaigner for drug prevention who was declared "Woman of the Year" 1980 and received the Asian Region Award for her work in this field;
  • as head of Tihar Jail in Delhi, Asia's largest security prison, where she became the most revolutionary reformer;
  • and now, as Special Secretary to the Lt. Governor of Delhi with responsibility for the protection of the 14 million mega city's environment, she is out on the streets campaigning for a "clean and healthy Delhi."
