Rachael Bayley

Bayley has been Head of Volunteering with Samaritans (www.samaritans.org) since 2005, and is responsible for strategic development of the charity’s volunteers and volunteering programmes.  She spent the first seven years of her career in stage and operational management in the Theatre and Arts Sector.  This was followed by five years in the corporate sector working in investment banking at Lehman Brothers.  Her experience includes managing Graduate Recruitment, Training and Development Programmes and Business Improvement Projects.

In 2003, Bayley moved to the voluntary sector and worked at Volunteer Reading Help, as Head of Service and part of the Senior Management Team where she managed the Service, Volunteering and Learning functions. During 2005, Bayley moved to Samaritans and the role of Head of Volunteering.  She is responsible for strategic development of volunteering and Samaritans’ 17,000 volunteers.  Her experience includes strategic development, volunteer recruitment, retention, support and training.

Bayley is a Trustee of Barnardo’s and has five years experience of volunteering with Samaritans, including delivering training and selection days.
She decided to join Samaritans because she is passionate about volunteering practice and wants to share and develop this.  Having been a volunteer, she knows first hand of the wonderful work that is done and wants to be part of this and support it.

Bayley was born in Nottingham and grew up in Loughborough. She now lives and works in London.  Leisure interests include dance and theatre, and spending as much time as possible with her family.
